2018-2019 Student Advisory CouncilInver Grove Heights Schools Director of Food Service Glen Ritter and Assistant Director of Food Service Dorie Pavel invited ISD 199 Student Advisory Council students to the IGH Middle School and Simley High School cafeteria, Cahill Court, for their last meeting. Students learned about the district’s efforts to provide more nutritious, homemade meals that support students and their learning through wellness.

“There are a large number of medical issues that are related to poor eating habits,” Mr. Ritter said. “My goal is to create a culture of adventurous eaters in Inver Grove Heights where lifelong proper eating habits will be developed and cultivated every day within our school meal program.”

Students taste-tested popular dishes, like chicken wings, but reimagined with fewer preservatives and more fresh, natural ingredients. They also tasted original creations, like a quinoa salad. After providing feedback in conversations with staff and in written surveys, students toured Cahill Court’s kitchen to understand how food is prepared each day. Finally, students reflected on the year’s meetings and received certificates to celebrate their work on the council.
