About 90 Simley students signed up to donate blood to the American Red CrossThe American Red Cross reports that, every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood and that blood cannot be manufactured. This April, about 90 Simley High School students pledged to donate blood during the school’s American Red Cross Blood Drive. Besides donating blood, students also volunteered to check in donors, talk them through the donation process, and escort them back to class safely.

Local companies also pitched in: Panera Bread donated bagels and Domino’s donated pizza to feed volunteers, and Chick-fil-A handed out coupons to donors. The American Red Cross also routinely provides scholarship funds for one or two students who volunteer to help at the blood drives. So while Simley students helped the Red Cross collect life-saving donations, the organization does what it can to support them too.
