Atheneum Assessment Timeline
The assessment process deadline for open enrollment of students ends on April 1. If you are considering having your child assessed for Atheneum after April 1, there may be the option of scheduling testing only if enrollment spots are still available. Please note that open enrollment placements will not be accepted in August. Contact Michelle Austin for more information.
Placement Criteria
Below are the placement criteria needed to be eligible to attend Atheneum.

Atheneum Assessment Table

Step 1 - MAP: Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) testing will need to be completed for both math and reading by scheduling testing with Michelle Austin or submitting the official score reports from your home school district. Please note that the MAP testing is a computer-based assessment and we are able to complete this complimentary with an appointment.

Step 2 - CogAT: The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) is a paper-based assessment with the following subtests: verbal, quantitative and nonverbal. For open enrolled students, the materials and scoring assessment fee is $25. The CogAT can be scheduled with Michelle Austin. Payments must be received prior to administering the assessment. Please note, we will accept official CogAT score reports from another school district as long as the assessment was given within one school year.

Step 3 - Parent Inventory: Parent/guardians will need to complete a parent inventory about their child. Please click here to print and complete the parent inventory and email or turn in the completed form to Michelle Austin.

Step 4 - WISC: Families will be notified if their child meets the targeted or considered criteria above to continue in the final step of the assessment process. If the family chooses to continue in the assessment process, the student will then have a Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC) scheduled. The materials and scoring fee is $150. The WISC assessment covers the following subtests: verbal comprehension, visual spatial, fluid reasoning, working memory and processing speed. Payments must be received prior to administering the assessment.
