The 2018-2019 ISD 199 Student Advisory CouncilEvery year, Inver Grove Heights Schools gathers students from grades 4, 7, and 11 to represent all of the district schools on the ISD 199 Student Advisory Council. The purpose of the council is to make sure student voices are included in district decisions while providing leadership training for the students involved. The 2018-2019 council met for the first time this October to brainstorm topics of interest to all students for their next meetings.

Superintendent Dave Bernhardson led the group in discussing current topics before small groups of students from all schools and grade levels worked together to narrow the list. One of the topics that came up was flexible furniture in classrooms. Advisory council students visited Simley High School to see a few classrooms that had some flexible furniture options. Afterward, students discussed how each option could be used at different levels and during different lessons. During the school year, the students will learn more at their meetings and school board meetings about the topics they choose, and they will have a chance to provide a student perspective to the district.
